*What do we mean by pricing increases? Good question. When we say pricing increases we mean changes to ticket fees, overall ticket fees, service fees, credit card processing fees, monthly fees, and customer support fees.
In July of 2007, when Eventbrite was just a young pup still raising money from venture capitalists, their pricing was the following:

+ 2.5% service fee
+ Ticket fees capped at $9.95
+ Sliding scale credit card processing + $.30

In July of 2008, Eventbrite's pricing was unchanged in their first year. It was one of the few times a year went by without a price change.

Sometime in 2009, Eventbrite changed their simple and straightforward (but high) pricing to a sliding scale. For tickets one penny to $39.79, they charged $0.99 per ticket before moving to a percentage. They offered a fee calculator to help understand it.

+ 2.5% of ticket price for tickets $39.80 to $398

In March of 2010, Eventbrite ditched their sliding scale, perhaps because it was too complicated, and introduced their own payment processor and raised credit card processing rates to 3%.

In 2013, Eventbrite pricing remained the same but they removed the, "We will never charge you more than $9.95 per ticket" - preparing for an eventual cap increase. They promised free events will always be free, but as you'll see some years later, even free events (over 20 tickets) would be assessed with a fee.

In 2018, just before Eventbrite's $200M IPO, Eventbrite changed their pricing yet again. In their S-1 filing, Eventbrite revealed it was losing tens of millions of dollars each year. What better way to aim for profitability than to increase the fees on customers? Eventbrite increased their fees by raising their maximum fee cap from $19.95 to $24.95 and upped the on-site at the door fees from $0 to $1 per ticket for credit cards.

🚨 Pricing change alert! 🚨
Immediately after going public with a $200M IPO, Eventbrite raised their fees yet again. But they hoped you might not notice the switcheroo they pulled with their fee and percentage.
Eventbrite dropped their per ticket fee to $1.59 (down from $1.99) and dropped credit card processing to 2.5%. BUT they raised their service fee from 2.5% to 3.5% and removed their per maximum fee cap fee entirely. Yep, this means there is zero cap on fees.

In May of 2020, Eventbrite's pricing stayed the same, albeit very high. Could it get worse? Yes, yes it could. Just wait a little bit. During 2020, Eventbrite snagged another $225M in financing laying the groundwork for another pricing increase down the line.

There is something in the water because 2023 saw some of the biggest pricing jumps in their history as Eventbrite increased their service fee from 3.5% to 3.7% and their per ticket fee from $1.59 to $1.79.
They also upped their credit card processing from 2.5% to 2.9% and removed the US and Canada from their Essentials plan, forcing all North American customers to be on their Professional plan. Surely this would be the only price increase in 2023, right?

🚨 Pricing change alert! 🚨
If early 2023 changes weren't enough, Eventbrite delivered another price increase (the 10th to date) and decided to try a new tactic: monthly fees! Eventbrite's recently increased pricing would now require a monthly fee based on number of attendees.
Eventbrite introduced 2 pricing tiers"Flex" which is a per event fee and "Pro" which is monthly subscription. Eventbrite Flex plan starts at $9.99 per event for up to 100 tickets, then $24.99 per event for up to 250 tickets, and unlimited tickets for $49.99 per event.
Eventbrite Pro offered a monthly subscription starting at $29 per month for up to 100 tickets, $79 per month for up to 250 tickets, and $159 per month for unlimited tickets.
Eventbrite also conveniently removed a policy that refunded Eventbrite's fees in case of cancellation or refund. That's going to leave a mark.

Towards the end of 2023, Eventbrite made some cosmetic changes to how they show their pricing. They introduced a formal free plan that lets you sell tickets for free up to 25 tickets. They also introduced a premium plan as well with a call to action to contact sales. The essentials of their pricing remained unchanged besides some cosmetic changes.

🚨 Pricing change alert! 🚨
After a disappointing Q3 earnings reporting showing Eventbrite revenue down 5% year over year (and also laying off 100 employees months prior) Eventbrite has changed their pricing, again. Welcome to change number 11. We can hardly keep up over here!
In an attempt to keep customers from jumping ship from their price increases from all the monthly fees, Eventbrite has removed some of their monthly fees for their standard tiers.
However, the monthly fees are not gone, they are just bundled into the Pro tier if you want to send marketing emails through their platform. While this could be seen as a positive change, their per ticketing fees and on site charges are still outrageously expensive.
